There is a perception that banks are not lending to small businesses and it is certainly true that raising business finance is increasingly difficult. Tower Hamlets College are assisting SMEs across London to gain access to commercial finance....

What we do?
We are the enterprising, entrepreneurial and experienced business facing arm of Tower Hamlets College. Alongside other services to employers, we provide help and support for businesses seeking to access finance from principal lenders and other main stream lenders or for businesses where their application for finance has been rejected by a funder.

We assist with all types of business finance, including:
• Commercial mortgages (owner occupier only)
• Working capital
• Asset finance
• Factoring & invoice discounting
• Overdraft facilities
• Enterprise Finance Guarantee Scheme

Criteria
For those businesses needing to raise finance, we deliver the free “Access to Finance for Growth” support programme. The project is part-funded by  a European Union programme which provides support for businesses across London in order to create jobs, become more productive and more innovative.

To qualify, a business must meet the following criteria:
• Have less than 250 employees;
• Be trading and appropriately registered as a limited company , or with HM Revenue & Customs as self–employed
• Be based in any London borough
We will support most business sectors but there are some exceptions.

How we work
We will help you develop a credible business plan as this is essential when approaching banks, potential funders or investors. We will also work with you to ensure you present your case to potential funders effectively.

How we do this
• One-to-one meetings with our qualified advisors at a mutually agreeable location
• Ongoing review and feedback of business plan and forecasts
• Coaching and preparation for meetings with the lender
• Introduction to lenders where required

• Identify the challenges, issues and opportunities you face
• Develop your ideas and plans to tackle them
• Develop a credible business plan to get you ready for investment
