Apprenticeship opens doors for Emily

Emily is a typical teenager. School was alright, but nothing special. She wants to own her own business one day, but lacks the qualifications and experience to get started. Emily has found a simple way to get herself on the career ladder – a Business Administration Apprenticeship.

Emily as inspired to study an Apprenticeship in Business Administration at Tower Hamlets College when she was doing a floristry course. Much as she enjoyed the creative and artistic side of the job, the bit that really inspired her was the business side of what she was doing.

Emily wants to own her own business one day… and as a Business Administration Apprentice she is gaining both a crucial qualification and also a wealth of business experience which stands her in good stead to realise those dreams. As she says herself: “Apprenticeships are fantastic because they help you become more professional in the workplace. I’d definitely recommend it!”

Working four days a week as a PA/Administrator at a Chinese Business Company, Emily gains real insight into how a company is run. Then on Fridays she comes to Tower Hamlets College where she learns the theory behind business administration, and methods to improve her work. She also gets extra help with her Maths, as this is an area that Emily struggled with at school.

“It’s a really good way to learn. A Levels definitely weren’t for me, and this way I get to learn whilst gaining experience too. It helps the business I work at as well. They notice when I’m not there, which I think must be a good sign!”
