ILM Award in First Line Management (level 3)

A concise introduction to effective line management through a mix of theory and work-based study. Employees enrolling on the course are encouraged to investigate current work situations and identify best practice and areas for improvement in their day-to-day working environment.

Running for 1 evening a week, specifically for people who are new to a first line management position or who are about to undertake a management position and have had no formal training.

Once enrolled on the course, you receive 1 year student membership to the ILM (Institute of Leadership and Management). During the course you will complete 3 assignments that reflect your understanding of your own leadership and management style, formal communication skills as well as your aptitude for identifying, assessing and solving problems in the work place.

You will use a range of study methods, including a basic virtual learning environment. You are encouraged to investigate industry specific developments and incorporate these into the broader management training field. Feedback from candidates is that the course is of immense benefit to students’ work roles, encouraging personal reflection and developing one’s own approach to leadership.

Who is this course for?: 

You will be interested in starting your Continual Professional Development, or looking for an introduction to professional study.

Entry Requirements: 

You should be a practicing manager or supervisor, otherwise have substantial experience to draw on for the work-based assignments. Unfortunately this course is not advisable if you are currently between employerment as there are substantial evidence requirements to passing each assignment.

Start Date: 

12 weeks, three hours per week + personal study time

Additional Information: 

The Award at level 3 is seen as a starting point for professional development for management. There is a broad range of progression routes available with the ILM, many of which are available through our Management Training Section.
