
This framework has been designed for individuals working within a retail environment as a general sales assistant as well as those in more specialist roles, for example beauty consultants or fresh food counter assistants. Both the Retail Skills and Retail Knowledge qualifications contain generic mandatory units which focus on the apprentice's ability to function effectively in retail. The qualifications also have optional units which enable apprentices operating in more specialist roles to develop their skills and knowledge.
At level 2 there are two pathways; one which contains the Level 2 Certificate in Retail Skills as the competence-based qualification and the other which comprises of the Level 2 Diploma in Retail Skills. The purpose of the two pathways is to ensure that apprentices are able to complete a qualification which most suits their role within the organisation.
People aged 16-24 who aspire to work in roles such as Sales Assistants, Customer Service Assistants and Stockroom Assistants as well as more specialist roles such as Beauty Consultants.
There are no mandatory entry requirements for this Apprenticeship framework. HoweverCompletion of any nationally accredited Level 1 retail qualification would provide apprentices with a good understanding of sector prior to undertaking a Level 2 Retail Apprenticeship framework. Employers They expect applicants to demonstrate a "can do" attitude and have at least basic numeracy and literacy skills on which the Apprenticeship will build.
The main parts of the apprenticeship programme, NVQs, are work-based nationally recognised qualifications, designed to benchmark the skills an employee needs to do their job effectively. Candidates tailor their NVQs to reflect the particular requirements of the job role they are undertaking, choosing a number of appropriate units from a wide range of possible options. In this way all NVQs are made to measure for each employer.
Apprenticeships include both on and off-the-job training. At Tower Hamlets College, we work collaboratively with employers to deliver the job training and qualifications that an apprentice needs to complete their apprenticeship framework.
